At the New York premiere of Hollywood film The Great Gatsby“, the noise went up for a moment and the US media was left wondering if Leonardo DiCaprio had come, but it was actually Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The crowd’s cheers were overwhelming, says Big B.

“Back from ‘The Great Gatsby’ premiere and has to be said… the EF (extended family) was the main attraction. Simply superb! American media, fans, security in shock. Thank you my ED, and thank you to those that cheered their lungs out. US media thought Leonardo had come, when noise went up,” Big B tweeted post his “fantastic” experience. He added had it not been for his extended family, his fans, crowding the stands, “no one would have even noticed me”. The red carpet event was “emotional” for him. “I really have no words to express my gratitude to all of you that cheered in virtual world, and on the streets of NYC… indebted,” posted the 70-year-old.

“The Great Gatsby”, directed by Baz Luhrmann, marks Amitabh’s Hollywood debut. He plays Meyer Wolfsheim in the $125 million 3D project, an adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel of the same name. The movie, which also stars Tobey Maguire and Leonardo Di Caprio, will open the 66th edition of Cannes International Film Festival, starting May 15. Amitabh will join the team on the red carpet there too.

Glam affairs and star studded events are no big deal in Bollywood, but the guest list at the wedding reception of Amul Mohan, the son of producer Vikas Mohan was indeed exclusive, as it counted Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan among the names. The glittering affair was held at the prestigious Mariott hotel where Vikas and wife Kiran acted as hosts to welcome their A list gusts to the wedding reception of their son Amul with Pallavi. The newlyweds looked ecstatic as they happily posed for photos.

Abhishek Bachchan was seen chatting with his two friends Hrithin Roshan and Akshaye Kumar in the party. Riteish Deshmikh, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan with dad David and mom Karuna,  Jeetendra with daughter Ekta Kapoor, Akbar Khan, Gulshan Grover, Madhur Bhandarkar with wife were also present. The big fat wedding reception turned out to be indeed a celebrity event.

Abhishek is busy at the moment with several projects after the release of his Bol Bachchan. He will next be seen in the Dhoom 3 along with Aamir Khan. He has also signed a movie Happy New Year with Farah khan. This will be the first time that the actor appears with Farah after his small performance in Om Shanti Om.

He has also been finalized in the sole lead role for Umesh Shukla’s next venture. Shukla’s OMG! Oh My God had got good response at the box office. His next film is similar to this, with an underlying social message served with humour. Shukla said, “This time it’s not based on a play or any other external source. It is an original script. It’s the story of a son and his relationship with his parents. I can’t reveal too much at the moment. But like my OMG, it will address an important social issue in an engaging humorous mood”.

Friend Hrithik Roshan is no less busy. He is completely involved now at the post production phase of Krrish 3. “It will take another six-seven months. It is my most ambitious project. I have worked very hard. I have put all my passion into this. You go to sleep with a satisfaction in your heart and wake up with a mind buzzing with ideas. November 1 is the release date. I hope everything comes out well,” said Hrithik in an interview.

Sources confim that Amitabh Bachchan will join the new cast of Welcome sequel.replaces Feroz Khan in the Welcome series. In what turned out to be Feroz Khan's last screen appearance, the stylish Khan played a super-powerful underworld don named RDX in Welcome.

Director Anees Bazmee says , "Feroz Bhai played the kind of imposing don whom even Nana and Anil bowed down to. Unfortunately for us, Feroz Bhai is no longer with us. I can only think of one actor who can play that role. And that's Bachchan Saab."

The Big B's schedule is now being looked into. Anees Bazmee also confirms that the sequel to his 2007 hit comedy Welcome would feature Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor along with John Abraham who contrary to reports does not replace Akshay Kumar.

Anees explains, "John Abraham is playing the lead in Welcome Back. He joins Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor who were part of the Welcome cast. But John is not stepping into Akshay Kumar's role, as reported. We've eliminated Akshay's part and created a new hero's role. So John's role is completely new. As for Nana and Anil, they'll reprise the roles of Uday and Majnu."

Apparently, producer Feroz Nadiadwala's fall-out with Akshay Kumar put Anees in a dilemma as he shares a warm rapport with the star. Initially, the plan was to bring in John to replace Akshay. But when Anees felt that Akshay would be affronted if replaced by another actor, the role was scrapped and an entirely new hero's track was written into the sequel Welcome Back.

Ramesh Sippy’s Shakti (1982) isn’t as much about the Amitabh Bachchan and Smita Patil on-screen romance, as the on-screen histrionics of the Big B and and the Big D – Dilip Kumar. In a rare drift away from the moral weave of the movies of that period Sippy didn’t shy away from portraying a live-in relationship and premarital sex. But quite like other censor-wary films of the period there’s no puffing and panting on the screen. The camera only shyly pans away to the blazing fire in the background.

But the poster designers were definitely not the shy variety. Those fleeting few seconds had enough in them, to have us mistake, even if it for a moment, that the only film that Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar worked together in was a titillating feature. Those who are yet to watch the movie, I am sorry to disappoint. It wasn’t.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has played many roles in his career spanning over four decades but finds it really difficult to explain his real self. Amitabh Bachchan, who will be seen playing the role of a social activist in forthcoming Satyagraha, has played diverse roles of an angry young policeman in Zanjeer, a don in Don (1978), jovial botany professor in Chupke Chupke to a professor with alzhiemer's disease in award winning Black.

"An actor does don many (roles), professionally. But which the real is and which not, shall always remain a mystery, not just for those that observe him from the outside, but for the actor himself," Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog. "It is often asked of us, 'Who the real Mr Bachchan is?' and it is often replied with an inconclusive, incomplete and an utterly unconvincing response. Not because there is difficulty in finding an adequate reply, but that there really is none," he added.

The actor said that there 'are more than one person behind that name.'"The question itself is in many respects incongruous. There is a touch of insinuation in the asking, because the person seeking response, has determined beyond all reasonable doubt that there are more than one person behind that name. This is objectionable in a funny sort of way," he wrote. Big B, who is shooting for the Prakash Jha movie in Bhopal, will be walking the red carpet at Cannes this year. His Hollywood project The Great Gatsby will open the 66th Festival de Cannes. Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Meyer Wolfsheim in his debut Hollywood movie.

After obsessively covering up her firstborn, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did the complete opposite. She eagerly allowed the paparazzi capture her little Aaradhya’s many moods. No scarf over her face, or even her ‘protective’ mother’s hand to shield her face from the prying media. The Bachchans had only landed at the Mumbai airport, after their US holiday, when the Indian media spotted them.

As her dad Abhishek Bachchan walked ahead, her gorgeous mom carried her. Aaradhya’s face was unveiled in full glory as she curiously glanced at the mayhem that unfolded when she was escorted out of the airport. The attention did appear to upset her, with the toddler clinking onto her mother. Ash’s parents were also spotted and the entire gang quickly boarded their waiting car.

Abhi-Ash had headed to Vancouver for a film awards show, and then proceeded to New York to celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary. Earlier, Aishwarya had gone to great lengths, at almost every public outing, to keep baby Aaradhya’s face blocked from the media. The cover-up, she insisted, was only a natural reaction to protect her little girl from the incessant flashing of the shutterbugs.

“With my baby with me, it's instinctive. If I see her getting startled or her eyes opening I protect her,” she told the news channel. But, a year into her birth, her celebrity mommy appears to be much more relaxed. Grinning away and holding up a clueless Aaradhya. In fact, it was at Ash’s birthday that the media first caught a glimpse of the little girl.

She didn’t particularly like the attention and wailed away as her famous mom was being celebrated on the podium. Since then, her actor-granddad Amitabh Bachchan also posted images of her in twitter. Abhishek and Aishwarya got married in 2007 and welcomed their first child on November 16 last year.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who unveiled former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu's website, sherryontop.com, minces no words in praising the quick-witted young man and said he would have loved to use his quotes on Kaun Banega Crorepati. "I have great admiration for the young man... I have always loved the way he speaks about so many aspects of life. Just watching him and being in his company is a great revelation," said the 70-year-old actor. "I always wonder how he remembers all these wonderful quotes. I am truly impressed and I wish I could use some of them in my show KBC," added Amitabh Bachchan, who hosted the game show.

Big B also admires Sidhu's heartiest laughs. "I always feel that he has the most heartiest laughs that we could find in any human being. A laugh really represents what a person is, that's what I believe," he said.  Former cricketer Kapil Dev was also present at the launch of the website, which is being considered the digital avatar of the cricketer and will feature his blogs, and readers can also have live chats.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has described the brutal sexual assault on a five-year-old Delhi girl as a matter of shame and said, 'something is going horribly wrong with us as a society.'Bachchan took to Twitter, Facebook and blog to express his feeling of distress. On Twittr, he said: "Have no energy left to write, think and communicate the horror of this crime!!  Something is going horribly wrong with us as a society !! Prayers for the little girl as she fights for her life!!  Distressed, disturbed and frustrted to learn of the rape of a 5 year old in Delhi ...now fighting for her life!! A shame !!.

The horror of the latest crime of rape and then attempt to kill a 5 year old little girl, leaves me numb and without voice ! These evil beings are not fit to be called animals … even animals have certain codes of conduct !

What is happening to us as a society, a community ? Why and how are we succumbing to these atrocious and ghastly acts … who are these people and where do they come from .. which Mother gave birth to them, and how were they brought up … in which environment.

Jails are not the solution … keeping them bound and confined shall not change them or their thinking … they need to be made examples of … they need to be shamed first publicly and then left to the public to deal them justice in which ever way they seem fit !!

There seems to be complete vacuousness in how the situation needs to be dealt with .. no one seems to have solutions, or worse, preventions … we wait till a deed happens and then get active on how to deal with the situation … we have no mechanism to preempt a situation .. whether it be a rape or a terrorist attack …

Most security checks at public places are limited to a doorway which beeps on metal possession .. hah ! most explosive gagets are made of plastic these days, undetected by these machines … a terrorist attack on the city from the sea and then, and only then does the coastal patrol get more efficient in its weaponry and its boats, that ply about … it is after an incident happens that the aspect of the event starts getting attention …

We all are living in insecure times, where the fear of authority and the call of discipline and awareness is non existant …

We live on love and fresh air … and we hope that what befalls tragically on others, shall not befall us …

May that be true for all of us … but it shall not …
