I am such a rotten actor, says Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan is considered an acting institution. Bollywood looks up to him proudly and with sheer respect. He is an acting legend and inspiration for all who wants to make big in Bollywood. One would run short of words to describe his acting caliber and achievement but Amitabh Bachchan feels that he is a rotten actor.

I am such a rotten actor, says Amitabh Bachchan

For few days, he has been asking his fans to point out the mistake that he made in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Black’ eight years ago. Though the film was hugely acclaimed and Rani Mukherjee and Big B’s role was highly appreciated, the megastar feels that there is some fault in one of the scenes and finally, he found the mistakes. In the movie, he played an Alzheimer and Rani a blind, deaf and dumb girl.

"...I was asking about the fault in my performance, in that scene, and not the other factors. And here is what the fault was," Amitabh posted on his blog srbachchan.tumblr. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Black’ revolves around a blind and deaf girl and her relationship with her teacher, who later develops Alzheimer.

Sharing the mistake, he posted: "When I inform all at the table that Rani had dictated a letter to me to be read at the table, especially for her sister, whom it was believed she was jealous of, I took out the letter to read, and then my hand went straight to my upper pocket of the jacket to pull out the glasses to read... Mistake."

"I needed to feel around in my other pockets to ascertain where my glasses were, instead of my hand directly going to the pocket. For someone who is soon getting into the symptoms of Alzheimer's, where patients forget where and what they do, it was incorrect of me to go straight to my pocket," he posted. After eight years, Amitabh Bachchan regrets for making the blunder in the scene.

He is considered a legend in the Indian film industry, but megastar Amitabh Bachchan doesn’t seem to be as impressed with his acting skills and calls himself a “rotten actor”. The comment has come after he has realised his mistake in one of the sequences in 2005 Black, in which he played a teacher called Debraj Sahay. A few days back, the 70-year-old had asked the audience about the mistake that he did in the film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

“…I was asking about the fault in my performance, in that scene, and not the other factors. And here is what the fault was,” Amitabh posted on his blog srbachchan.tumblr. “Black” revolves around a blind and deaf girl, played by Rani Mukerji, and her relationship with Sahay, her teacher, who later develops Alzheimer’s.

Sharing the mistake, he posted: “When I inform all at the table that Rani had dictated a letter to me to be read at the table, especially for her sister, whom it was believed she was jealous of, I took out the letter to read, and then my hand went straight to my upper pocket of the jacket to pull out the glasses to read… Mistake.”

Even after eight years, he doesn’t seem to have got over that mistake. “Aah! still cringe every time I think of the mistake, or see it on replays! Damn! I am such a rotten actor,” posted Big B.

Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth to attend Cannes film festival

Posted in : Amitabh Bachchan, Gossips

(added a month ago!)

Megastars Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth will come together in a most unexpected way at the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival in May. While Mr Bachchan will represent his first Hollywood film The Great Gatsby in Cannes, Rajinikanth will be unveiling the trailer of his new film Kochadaiyaan at the festival.

Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth to attend Cannes film festival

Murli Manohar, co-producer of the southern film, confirmed Rajinikanth's presence in Cannes at the same time as the Big B. "It's a big moment in the history of Indian cinema. Rajiniji is as excited as a child about the way Kochadaiyaan has turned out. Technique-wise it takes Indian cinema to another level altogether. Rajiniji has shown the rough cut of the film to his close friends. The other day, AR Rahman saw the rough cut and was blown away," said Manohar.

Kochadaiyaan will be finally completed July 15. The release date is to be decided by the end of May. Apparently, Rajinikanth, 62, has been advised against long air travel. But he is in no mood to stop himself from making that long journey to Cannes, where the annual movie extravaganza begins on May 15.

A source close to the project said: "He is adamant on going. He has become extremely frail. But whenever anyone mentions his delicate health to Rajiniji, he gives the example of Mr Bachchan, who has braved the most serious illnesses and done exactly what he wanted and gone exactly where he wanted in his career."

Amitabh Bachchan on Pran's shayari and pain killers on sets of Don

Posted in : Amitabh Bachchan, Gossips, Movies

(added a month ago!)

Another week, another endearing story from Amitabh Bachchan's endless supply. This week, Big B's subject is the shooting of 1978 blockbuster Don. He posted a film still of himself with co-star Pran, who played a father in search of his two missing children, and a reminiscence of their time shooting the blockbuster film on his Facebook page.

Amitabh Bachchan on Pran's shayari and pain killers on sets of Don

Pran and Big B first co-starred in Zanjeer (1973), and went on to appear in many films together. In his post, Big B praised his friend and colleague's dedication and professionalism, writing: "Invariably his make up involved wigs and beards of different nature, but irrespective of the intricacy of its bearing and the time consumption in putting them on, he was always the first person on set, and never went back to his make up room even if he was not required for the shot. He never argued or disagreed with any procedure on the film, never interfered, just quietly went about his work and left. He has a great repertoire of 'shayari' and would often entertain us with the choicest works through his fantastic memory of them."

Amitabh Bachchan also wrote about cinematographer and producer Nariman Irani, producer of Don, who died tragically on the sets of the film. Mr Irani was famous for his camerawork on films like Phool Aur Patthar and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan. Big B wrote: "He was a giant of a man, but with a heart of gold. Soft spoken with a continuous smile on his face, he always , for some reason kept addressing me with the words 'Keys of the Kingdom'. It was only later, much later that I discovered that it was the title of a Hollywood film he liked, and wished to produce next. Unfortunately he did not live to see it through. At the shooting of one of the films he was doing as DOP, he, seeing a portion of the set breaking and about to fall on a little child that was working in the film, ran to save the child, saved him, but fell in doing so and broke his hip bone. He was hospitalised, one complication followed another and he never came out of it. Sadly he passed away in his prime."

The waistcoat that Amitabh Bachchan wears in the film still is the same one he wore in the famous song Khaike Paan Banaraswala which, as he tells us, was an afterthought, added to the film on the suggestion of actor Manoj Kumar. Shooting the song proved to be no easy task: "Khaike paan ...' was shot at a floor on Mehboob Studios too, in my second shift - we did two shifts a day in those days, for two different films. The morning shift from 7am-2pm was an action sequence at China Creek, during which I had hurt the palm of my feet and developed huge painful blisters. The song was done bare feet as you may see, and with the blisters was an impossibility. But, because DONwas on release, I had to do it. How ? Hmmm ... Pain killing injections, every hour during the shoot that numbed the palm of the feet !! Not something that I would recommend for anyone !!"

As always, we are delighted by Amitabh Bachchan's weekly memoir. And we're looking forward to next week's.

Amitabh Bachchan finds working therapeutic

Posted in : Amitabh Bachchan, Gossips

(added a month ago!)

He might be 70 but megastar Amitabh Bachchan likes to be occupied with work and hopes that he stays busy always. Amitabh Bachchan, who is currently shooting Prakash Jha's next film Satyagraha in Bhopal, said work has a "therapeutic" effect on him.

Amitabh Bachchan finds working therapeutic

"The sun sets again and another day of turmoil comes to an end. The work is the place that I would like to be always. It is almost like a balm across an aching forehead - therapeutic. Work dissects me from the daily and hourly burdens, that man carries, perhaps right to his grave," he posted on his blog.

The actor also said working gives him satisfaction in life. "The atmosphere around a unit at work is intoxicating. There is always ofcourse the feel of being aware of all about. Not just the place of work, but also matters that concern us individually. Mostly those that remain in the realm of domesticity. It is impossible to be in a situation of enactment, when thoughts and mind are occupied else where," he added. Bachchan is also gearing up for the release of his Hollywood debut project The Great Gatsby, which will release on May 10.

Amitabh Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor resume Satyagraha shooting in Bhopal

Posted in : Amitabh Bachchan, Gossips

(added a month ago!)

It has been quite a marathon shooting schedule for Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor. The actors have been relentlessly supporting filmmaker Prakash Jha to complete his film, Satyagraha on time! It’s learnt that Jha is almost through with this heavily-researched film and the cast and crew is in its last leg of shoot.

Amitabh Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor resume Satyagraha shooting in Bhopal

Both Big B and Kareena were in Mumbai on a break for a few days for certain professional and personal commitments. But now, the two actors have headed back to Bhopal to resume their work and help Jha in completing the film. Bebo was seen in her casual red T-shirt and jeans, but we were pleased to see the thick bearded Mr Bachchan wear a red and white jacket and a matching red teeka on his forehead as he waved out to hordes of fans waiting at the airport to catch a glimpse of their superstar. Though we like the sadi ka mahanayak’s white beard look and want him to retain it for some more time, we are sure he must be looking forward to complete the film ASAP so that he can get rid of it. Right, Amit ji?
